Day 1
NAIROBI - SOSIAN
This morning you are scheduled to
arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Once
you have cleared customs and collected your luggage
a representative from Hoopoe Safaris (who will have
a sign with your name on) will meet you at arrivals.
You will then be transferred to Wilson Domestic Airport
for your scheduled flight to Loisaba.
From Loisaba airstrip a Sosian vehicle
and driver will be there to meet you and transfer you
to Sosian Ranch, which is a one hour game-drive from
Loisaba. You will arrive at Sosian Lodge for lunch.
‘Sosian’, the Samburu
word for ‘Wild Date Palm’, combines the
tame with the wild; ideal for those looking for a unique
and intimate bush experience. Set amid stunning scenery
and overlooked by snowcapped Mount Kenya, the old ranch
house sits within 24,000-acres of working ranch on the
Laikipia plateau.
Day 1 -3
SOSIAN RANCH HOUSE / LAIKIPIA (3 NIGHTS)
The Ranch House has been renovated
with the expertise of Christl von Plessen and furniture
from Buenos Aires.
More than 250 species of birdlife
and an abundance of game species including four of the
big five can be found on the Sosian Ranch, including
rare species such as Jackson’s hartebeest, Grevy’s
zebra and reticulated giraffe. The accommodation comprises
seven double cottages. The house has a swimming pool,
tennis court and billiard room and is hosted by Steve
and Annabel Carey.
Guests are
encouraged to participate in ranch life, such as dipping
cattle. Other activities include horse riding through
the game filled ranch, camel safaris, day and night
game drives, guided bird watching and fishing. Spectacular
waterfalls offer alternative swimming along the Euaso
Narok River.
Days 4
SOSIAN - MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE
Today, you
will be transferred back to Loisaba Airstrip for your
scheduled flight to the Masai Mara from where you will
be met and driven to Offbeat Mara camp for the next
3 nights.
Offbeat Mara Camp is a 12-bed
luxury semi-permanent camp situated on the Olare Orok
water system, on Koiyaki Group Ranch, north of the Masai
Mara Game Reserve. This unspoilt part of Masailand is
an area full of wildlife but far from any lodge. Offbeat
Mara Camp employs and trains local Masai guides and
works with the community employing many in the camp
staff. The Mara offers amazing game viewing throughout
the year and features the annual wildebeest migration
in July – September.
Day 4 - 6
OFFBEAT MARA CAMP / MASAI MARA GAME (3 NGITHS)
The camp sleeps
only twelve guests in six large tents – three
doubles and three twins. Each tent has its own en-suite
bathroom with hot bucket showers, wash basins and flush
loos. The spacious tents are all furnished with large,
hand made cedar beds, 24 hour solar lighting and the
finest linen. Informal dining is hosted in the mess
tent or around the campfire. Delicious English breakfasts,
lighter lunches and three course dinners are served
each evening. Guests can also relax in the bar and living
room tent, which is furnished with comfortable sofas,
a writing desk, library and fully stocked bar. You will
be hosted by Piers Winkworth.
By now you will be familiar
with enjoying the bush breakfasts and sundowners provided
by the Offbeat properties, but the day and night game
drives are different in each location. Here you will
also have an opportunity to mix with the local Masai
community – a great experience.
Day 7
MASAI MARA - NAIROBI
This morning,
you will be driven back to the Musiara airstrip for
your scheduled flight back to Wilson Airport –
Nairobi.
On arrival in Nairobi a representative
