Hoopoe Guide Training Courses

One of the cornerstones of Hoopoe's operations is our guide trianing programs. Our methodology is simple - train as much as possible. Normally this means that we run 2 training programs a year in the low seasons (November and April) but we also run refresher courses at key times for specific events - the Serengeti Migration, the Tarangire Migration are good examples.

See the following training courses we have run for more info on exactly what we cover in our courses - they are tailored to different disciplines depending on whether the guide is a wilderness and mountain guide or a driver guide:

Mountain Guides / Wilderness Guides

  • November 2004
  • May 2005
  • November 2005
  • March 2006
  • April 2006 (mountain guides + safari guides cross discipline training)
  • October 2006 (refresher course East African mountain and safari guides)
  • April 2007 - refresher courses altitude + red cross first aid
  • October / November: geology, altitude sickness + CPR
  • April 2008: 6 guides trained as first aid instructors, 2 weeks porter and crew first aid, 9 days wilderness training

Also see Wilderness guide profiles or mountain guides and crew links.

Safari Guides

Our safari guide training programs are led by Peter Lindstrom with guest lecturers such as the Serengeti Lion research project. The courses are run twice a year and outside companies often send their guides to these programs. More details will be posted for upcoming seminars and courses.
