March 2006 - Advanced First Aid Training

For info on past training sessions please see:

Guides training

Why advanced 1st aid training?
Essentially to push the level that Hoopoe guides currently have and to take them a step above what is currently offered on the mountain and to cover more wilderness scenarios. Certain circumstances require specialist skills and specialist training - and so what was the syllabus?

Course content
1. Senior first aid - refresher course + assessment
CPR - EAR - BLEEDING + WOUND MANAGEMENT - DRABC

2.Advanced First Aid (remote environment)

  • Stethoscope use
  • Sphygmomanometer and BP assessment
  • Airway management
  • Medical notes
  • Patient Assessment (primary and) secondary survey
  • Intra venous cannulation
  • Intra muscular injection
  • Wound closure

Attendees
4 Hoopoe wilderness guides were selected to attend the course based on exam results in the previous November training course and trip feedback from clients. And so well done to Jonas, Joseph and Edward for making the grade in the first place to attend the course and also a big well done for completing the course as well.

Next Training Sessions
April 2006 is the next training session for all main guides, assistant guides and trainee guides. Course content mirroring previous sections with expanded sections on East African / African history.
