DAY 1
NAIROBI - MERU

This morning you are scheduled to arrive Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where, after you have collected your luggage and cleared customs, you will be met by a representative from Hoopoe Safaris and transferred to Wilson Domestic Airport for your 45 minute flight to Meru, enjoying aerial views of the amazing landscape. When you arrive at Meru Airstrip you will be met and driven the short distance to the camp.

Offbeat Meru Camp is a 12 bedded luxury semi-permanent camp situated just outside the park in Bisanandi National Reserve, set above the pretty Bisanandi River. Meru National Park offers visitors a chance to visit one of Kenya’s most magical parks away from the masses. The park has a wide variety of landscapes and is dominated by savannah, but includes riverine forest and swamps. The park is bisected by 13 rivers which flow towards the Tana River in the south and rise in the Nyambene Hills in the west.

The park has excellent game viewing opportunities which include lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, black and white rhino’s, eland, gerenuk, beisa oryx, grant’s gazelle, grevy’s zebra, lesser kudu and reticulated giraffe as well as over 280 species of birds.

DAY 1 -3
OFFBEAT CAMP / MERU (3 NIGHTS)

The camp itself comprises of six large tents, three twins and three doubles. Each tent is furnished with a huge iron bed and has its own en-suite bathroom, with traditional bucket shower and flushing loo. In addition, there is 24 hour solar lighting in the tents, whilst the rest of the camp is lit by traditional tilly lamps. Informal dining is hosted in the mess tent or around the stunning swimming pool. There is also a spacious living room with comfortable sofas, a writing table and a fully stocked bar.

There is much to do from Meru camp. The team can arrange both day and evening game drives in fully equipped custom-designed Landrover’s/Landcruisers. You can take short guided walks, enjoy traditional bush breakfasts and sundowners and fly fishing is also very popular from this camp.

DAY 4
MERU - SOSIAN

This morning you will be transferred back to the airstrip for a scheduled flight to Loisaba. On arrival you will then be met by a driver/guide and transferred to Sosian Ranch. You will spend the next 3 nights here.

‘Sosian’, the Samburu word for ‘Wild Date Palm’, combines the tame with the wild; ideal for those looking for a unique and intimate bush experience. Set amid stunning scenery and overlooked by snowcapped Mount Kenya, the old ranch house sits within 24,000-acres of working ranch on the Laikipia plateau.

DAY 4 - 6
SOSIAN LODGE / LAIKIPIA (3 NIGHTS)

The Ranch House has been renovated with the expertise of Christl von Plessen and furniture from Buenos Aires.

More than 250 species of birdlife and an abundance of game species including four of the big five can be found on the Sosian Ranch, including rare species such as Jackson’s hartebeest, Grevy’s zebra and reticulated giraffe. The accommodation comprises seven double cottages. The house has a swimming pool and billiard room and is hosted by Steve and Annabel Carey.

Guests are encouraged to participate in ranch life, such as dipping cattle. Other activities include horse riding through the game filled ranch, camel safaris, day and night game drives, guided bird watching and fishing. Spectacular waterfalls offer alternative swimming along the Euaso Narok River.

DAY 7

The Mara offers amazing game viewing throughout the year and features the annual wildebeest migration in July – September.

DAY 7 -9

The camp sleeps only twelve guests in six large tents – three doubles and three twins. Each tent has its own en-suite bathroom with hot bucket showers, wash basins and flush loos.
