DAY 1
NAIROBI - MERU
This morning you are scheduled to
arrive Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where, after
you have collected your luggage and cleared customs,
you will be met by a representative from Hoopoe Safaris
and transferred to Wilson Domestic Airport for your
45 minute flight to Meru, enjoying aerial views of the
amazing landscape. When you arrive at Meru Airstrip
you will be met and driven the short distance to the
camp.
Offbeat Meru Camp
is a 12 bedded luxury semi-permanent camp situated just
outside the park in Bisanandi National Reserve, set
above the pretty Bisanandi River. Meru National Park
offers visitors a chance to visit one of Kenya’s
most magical parks away from the masses. The park has
a wide variety of landscapes and is dominated by savannah,
but includes riverine forest and swamps. The park is
bisected by 13 rivers which flow towards the Tana River
in the south and rise in the Nyambene Hills in the west.
The park has excellent game
viewing opportunities which include lion, leopard, cheetah,
elephant, black and white rhino’s, eland, gerenuk,
beisa oryx, grant’s gazelle, grevy’s zebra,
lesser kudu and reticulated giraffe as well as over
280 species of birds.
DAY 1 -3
OFFBEAT CAMP / MERU (3 NIGHTS)
The camp itself comprises of six large
tents, three twins and three doubles. Each tent is furnished
with a huge iron bed and has its own en-suite bathroom,
with traditional bucket shower and flushing loo. In
addition, there is 24 hour solar lighting in the tents,
whilst the rest of the camp is lit by traditional tilly
lamps. Informal dining is hosted in the mess tent or
around the stunning swimming pool. There is also a spacious
living room with comfortable sofas, a writing table
and a fully stocked bar.
There is much to do from Meru
camp. The team can arrange both day and evening game
drives in fully equipped custom-designed Landrover’s/Landcruisers.
You can take short guided walks, enjoy traditional bush
breakfasts and sundowners and fly fishing is also very
popular from this camp.
DAY 4
MERU - SOSIAN
This morning you will be transferred
back to the airstrip for a scheduled flight to Loisaba.
On arrival you will then be met by a driver/guide and
transferred to Sosian Ranch. You will spend the next
3 nights here.
‘Sosian’,
the Samburu word for ‘Wild Date Palm’, combines
the tame with the wild; ideal for those looking for
a unique and intimate bush experience. Set amid stunning
scenery and overlooked by snowcapped Mount Kenya, the
old ranch house sits within 24,000-acres of working
ranch on the Laikipia plateau.
DAY 4 - 6
SOSIAN LODGE / LAIKIPIA (3 NIGHTS)
The Ranch
House has been renovated with the expertise of Christl
von Plessen and furniture from Buenos Aires.
More than 250 species of birdlife
and an abundance of game species including four of the
big five can be found on the Sosian Ranch, including
rare species such as Jackson’s hartebeest, Grevy’s
zebra and reticulated giraffe. The accommodation comprises
seven double cottages. The house has a swimming pool
and billiard room and is hosted by Steve and Annabel
Carey.
Guests are encouraged to participate
in ranch life, such as dipping cattle. Other activities
include horse riding through the game filled ranch,
camel safaris, day and night game drives, guided bird
watching and fishing. Spectacular waterfalls offer alternative
swimming along the Euaso Narok River.
DAY 7
SOSIAN - MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE
This morning
you will leave Sosian after breakfast and be driven
to Loisaba Airstrip for your scheduled flight to Masai
Mara. On arrival you will be met and driven to Offbeat
Mara camp for 3 nights.
Offbeat Mara Camp
is a 12 bed luxury semi-permanent camp situated on the
Olare Orok water system, on Koyiaki Group Ranch, north
of the Masai Mara Game Reserve. This unspoilt part of
Masailand is an area full of wildlife but far from any
lodge. Offbeat Mara Camp employs and trains local Masai
guides and works with the community employing many in
the camp staff. The Mara offers amazing game viewing
throughout the year and features the annual wildebeest
migration in July – September.
DAY 7 -9
OFFBEAT CAMP / MARA (3 NIGHTS)
The camp sleeps
only twelve guests in six large tents – three
doubles and three twins. Each tent has its own en-suite
bathroom with hot bucket showers, wash basins and flush
loos. The spacious tents are all furnished with large,
hand made cedar beds, 24 hour solar lighting and the
finest linen. Informal dining is hosted in the mess
tent or around the campfire. Delicious English breakfasts,
lighter lunches and three course dinners are served
each evening. Guests can also relax in the bar and living
room tent, which is furnished with comfortable sofas,
a writing desk, library and fully stocked bar.
By now you will be familiar
with enjoying the bush breakfasts and sundowners provided
by the Offbeat camps, but the day and night game drives
are different in every location. Here you will also
have an opportunity to mix with the local Masai community
– a great experience.
DAY 10
MAASAI MARA - NAIROBI
Today you will take your flight back
to Wilson Airport, Nairobi and will be met once again
by an Hoopoe Safaris representative. You will then be
driven to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your
flight home.
